WTLC Honored With ‘Quality of Life Award From Fullerton Chamber of Commerce

By Bob Rhein

The Fullerton Chamber of Commerce has named WTLC, dedicated to helping individuals and families escape the depths of domestic violence and exploitation, the recipient for the Quality of Life Award.

The award will be presented at the Chamber’s Annual Presidents’ Business Achievement Awards Dinner on Wednesday, June 20, at the Summit House Restaurant in Fullerton.

Corporal J.D. DeCaprio, Fullerton Police Department’s liaison for the homeless said he has high praise for the non-profit organization, and interacts regularly with WTLC during the course of his patrols.

“I remember in the middle of winter, coming upon a young mother and her two small children who had to leave the shelter of the Fullerton National Guard Armory when it opened in the morning for training exercises,” he said. “I was wearing a wool long-sleeve uniform shirt, bulletproof vest, and a jacket, and even I was cold.”

The woman told DeCaprio she had nowhere else to turn. That’s when the officer called WTLC. “I explained the situation and WTLC acted fast. They arranged for a temporary voucher at a local hotel where they could get out of the cold and clean up,” he said. “I understand that she and her kids became clients of WTLC which really helped turn their lives around.”

He added, “It’s heartwarming to know that those in need can rely on an organization like WTLC. There is no better example.”

WTLC has been serving Orange County for more than 35 years, providing transitional housing and shelter for victims of domestic violence. This organization aligns itself with community partners including the Fullerton Police Department, the Fullerton Collaborative, and the Richman Community Center. Volunteers believe in this organization and contributed nearly 8,000 hours of service last year. The organization has the only domestic violence shelter program in Orange County that accepts victims of domestic violence with substance abuse, mental illness issues, victims of human trafficking, boys, male victims and re-entry victims being released from the prison system.

WTLC is a nonprofit organization based in Orange County dedicated to helping individuals and families escape the depths of domestic violence and exploitation. WTLC provides the tools and resources to build self-esteem and empower people for independent living, With Tender Loving Care.
